Spring Calculator Professional 2026 R2

We’re pleased to announce the second scheduled update for Spring Calculator Professional (SCP) for 2026. This is one of our biggest updates, full of exciting new features. This update is as usual free for users with active maintenance.

First of all, we have a brand new product that goes alongside SCP, which is the SCP Enterprise Server. This is mainly aimed at larger companies and the main functionality is SQL Server based databases, which allow for more stable and powerful data storage and collaboration, especially for users working remotely. Admins can control user permissions and also roll out centralised configuration to enhance roll-out of SCP and maintain consistency of designs.

Then we have a new spring type, for dual rate compression springs. You could of course already model these in the non-standard spring type, but this dedicated option gives much more design flexibility. You can calculate by geometry to validate an existing spring, use the two rates before and after the transition, or two operating positions to help define the spring.

Also showing as a new spring type on the startup screen is the nested compression type. This is actually an add-on for the standard compression type, but for ease of use is shown as a separate spring type.

These two spring types are the only part of the new release which are optional and therefore costed add-ons.

We’ve added a totally new Solver window for compression springs. This builds on the old Designer but is much more powerful – you can include limits on other parameters and also change the target you are optimising for (maximum F2, shortest solid length etc.). It’s close to the power and flexibility of the Optimisation, but happens instantly as you change your constraints!

Powering the solver, we’ve added a user-friendly AI option to the wizards that were previously available, so you can describe your design problem in plain English and quickly pass the interpreted inputs to the Solver window.

Non-standard springs can be designed with different wire shapes: elliptical, ovate (egg-shaped) or even rectangular cross-section.

Extension springs get a major make-over in terms of end loop flexibility. First of all, you can have different options and configurations at each end, whether that’s controlling the added length or completely different loop types. You can now add swivel hooks with fully defined parameters – including different wire size than the main body of the spring.

We’ve made a series of improvements to the 3D modelling of the springs, ranging from more realistic bends in the wire to increased compatibility of exported STEP files.

And the latest SMI design and tolerance rules are included for compression, extension and torsion springs.

And for those who aren’t quite ready to make the jump to an investment in a permanent licence for on-premises SCP, there’s the all-new cloud version of SCP. This offers the vast majority of the same functionality, and the six most popular spring types, in the same user interface but contained in a browser. Subscribe monthly or annually for ultimate flexibility.
